Terms & Conditions

These Terms govern your use of Muse Editor ("Muse," "the Service"). By creating an account, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Muse.

Who we are

Muse Editor is operated from Portugal ("we," "us," "our"). By accessing museeditor.com or using the Service, you accept these Terms and the Privacy Policy. Together they form the entire agreement between you and us regarding Muse.

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.

Your account

You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for activity that happens on your account. If you suspect unauthorised access, email hello@museeditor.com as soon as you can.

You agree to provide accurate information when you register and to keep it current.

Your content

Everything you write in Muse belongs to you.

Your manuscripts, characters, world bible, voice samples, notes, and AI conversations are your creative work. We claim no ownership, no licence to publish or display, and no right to use it for any purpose other than delivering the Service to you. We treat your content as confidential.

We process your content only to:

We do not train models on your content, sell or share it for advertising, or hand it to third parties except as required by law or strictly necessary to operate the Service. The list of providers that touch your data is in the Privacy Policy.

AI features

Muse routes your prompts through several AI providers — Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter, Perplexity, OpenAI — depending on the feature. Under their standard API terms, your content is not used to train their models.

Output ownership. Text that an AI model suggests in response to your prompt is yours the moment you accept it into your manuscript. Muse claims no rights to AI-generated output produced for you, and we will not assert any copyright over it.

Output reliability. AI-generated text can be inaccurate, invented, or unsuitable for your work. You are responsible for reviewing, editing, and verifying anything Muse produces before publishing or distributing it.

Upstream terms. Each AI provider has its own acceptable-use policy. By using Muse, you agree not to use AI features to generate content that violates those policies — including illegal material, sexualised content involving minors, content designed to harass or defame identifiable individuals, or content meant to deceive (deepfakes, impersonation, fraud).

Acceptable use

When using Muse, you agree not to:

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

Subscriptions

Muse offers paid tiers (currently Writer, Pro, and Max). Prices and credit limits are shown on the billing page and may change with reasonable advance notice.

Billing. Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance via Stripe and renew automatically until you cancel.

Trial. When you create an account, you receive a free trial that grants full Pro access. The trial length is shown on the registration page when you sign up (currently 30 days while Muse is in open beta, and 21 days afterwards). The trial begins automatically at registration and ends when the trial period elapses or when you start a paid subscription, whichever comes first. When the trial ends without an active subscription, you keep read and export access; new edits and AI use are blocked until you subscribe.

Cancellation. You can cancel your subscription at any time from the Stripe billing portal (linked from the billing page). Your subscription remains active through the end of the period you've paid for.

Failed payment. If your card fails, Stripe will retry. After repeated failures, your subscription enters a "past due" state and you lose write access until billing is resolved.

Refunds

If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from the moment you subscribe. By using Muse's AI features within that period, you expressly request immediate performance of the Service and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once the Service has been fully performed during the 14 days.

Outside of the statutory right of withdrawal, we do not pro-rate refunds for partial periods. If you cancel mid-month or mid-year, you keep access through the end of the period you've paid for.

If something has gone seriously wrong on our end — a billing error, an undisclosed defect — email hello@museeditor.com and we'll make it right.

Account deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your manuscripts, characters, world bible, voice samples, billing references, and email are removed from active systems. Any active subscription is cancelled with Stripe at the same time. Backups containing your data age out on the backup retention cycle described in the Privacy Policy.

We do not issue refunds for unused subscription time when you delete an account.

Service availability and changes

We work to keep Muse running smoothly, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service. We may need to take the Service offline for maintenance, security, or reasons outside our control. We'll communicate planned downtime when we reasonably can.

We may modify, add, or remove features as Muse evolves. If a change materially affects how you use the Service, we'll give you reasonable notice — usually by email — before it takes effect.

If we ever discontinue Muse entirely, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice and keep the export tools running so you can take your manuscripts with you.

Third-party providers

Operating Muse depends on third-party infrastructure for hosting, AI inference, payments, and email delivery. The full list is in the Privacy Policy. We choose providers carefully and bind them to confidentiality, but we are not responsible for their independent outages, errors, or business decisions.

Our intellectual property

The Muse brand, the Service's design and interface, our code, our documentation, and our blog and marketing content belong to us. While you have an active account, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use Muse, subject to these Terms.

Your content remains yours, as described above.

You may not:

Feedback

If you send us feedback, feature requests, or suggestions, we may act on them without owing you compensation or attribution. We're not under any obligation to keep them confidential. We will not publicly attribute a suggestion to you by name without your permission.

Warranties

Muse is provided "as is" and "as available." To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties — express or implied — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

This disclaimer does not exclude any non-waivable rights you have as a consumer under EU or Portuguese law.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or in connection with your use of Muse will not exceed the greater of: (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred euros (€100).

We are not liable for indirect, consequential, incidental, or punitive damages — including loss of profits, loss of data, business interruption, or loss of goodwill — arising from your use or inability to use the Service.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law (including liability for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against any third-party claim arising out of: your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, the content you create or distribute through Muse, or your violation of applicable law.

Termination

You may terminate this agreement at any time by deleting your account.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, if your payment fails repeatedly, or if your use of the Service threatens our infrastructure or other users. Where a breach is curable, we'll give you notice and a reasonable chance to fix it first.

On termination, your right to use Muse ends; sections covering your content, our intellectual property, warranties, liability, indemnification, and governing law survive.

Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms as Muse evolves. Material changes will be announced by email to registered users at least 30 days before they take effect. Non-material changes (typos, clarifications, updates to provider lists) may be made without prior notice. The "Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.

If you continue using Muse after a change takes effect, you accept the revised Terms. If you don't agree, you may delete your account.

Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, without prejudice to any non-waivable consumer rights you hold under the laws of your country of residence.

If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you may bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence. Otherwise, the courts of Portugal have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising under these Terms.

Before filing a formal claim, please email hello@museeditor.com and give us 30 days to resolve the issue with you informally.
